Sea Eel Fish Maw (海鳗胶): Sizing, Tube Types & Export Sourcing
Technical trade guide to Sea Eel (Conger / Muraenesox) fish maw: elongated tubular morphology, thick jelly yield, sorting classifications, and Asian market demand.
Characteristics of Sea Eel swim bladders
Sea Eel fish maw (sourced primarily from Congresox and Muraenesox species) is distinctly elongated, cylindrical, and tapered at both ends. Its dense wall yields an intensely gelatinous, velvety broth, making it a perennial favorite for commercial soups.
Grading: Whole natural tubes vs. split ribbons
Grade AAA consists of intact, straight tubular maws with complete tips and uniform golden amber translucence. Grade AA features minor shape variation. Grade A encompasses split pieces and smaller tubes used predominantly by soup factories and catering kitchens.
Length and weight classifications for bulk trade
Sorted into 10–15 cm, 15–20 cm, 20–25 cm, and 25 cm+ lengths, with corresponding piece weights from 15g to 60g+. Bulk lots specify average piece counts per kilogram to give buyers precise portion-cost calculations.
Packaging and moisture tolerances
To prevent breakage of slender dried tubes during international freight, cartons are fitted with protective honeycomb liners and desiccant packs, with lot moisture guaranteed between 11% and 13%.
